It’s a Wonderful Day in the Neighborhood

December 13, 2010 in Blogging

I drive past this almost everywhere I go

I can’t quit thinking about the girl who was murdered around the corner on 55th a couple days ago. I tried to joke it off to the kids with a made up story, but the reality was harsh. Turns out that some guy got dumped, shot her on the sidewalk outside her condo, then killed himself. Shocking, but sadly common. The minimart clerk today brought it home. The girl was 21 and just graduated. He shot her 4 times while she was down. Now that’s messed up.

Kate Nash is Soooooo Punk!

October 28, 2010 in Blogging

Whoaa! Aahhhhh .. uuuuuugh!

The last time we saw our beloved Kate, she was a demure little thing waaay down there from our balcony seats. Man, last night’s show at House of Blues San Diego could not have been any different. She was a stumbling drunk screamer, and that’s hot. Drunk like six drinks stashed in various places on stage at once. Screaming like, well, screaming. Up on your tip-toes, eyes closed, chin raised and coughing, then spitting  afterwards… It was like the Nina Hagen show I saw at the Spirit in ’81. I must add, however, that she was still every bit the smiling sweetheart, even while screaming. When I pushed my way to the front for “Mariella” it was a wonder to behold the neverevereverevereverever close up. It was definitely a moment. And I was loving the lightbulb piano shield thing. Nothing but regret about Eric Hehr from Gold Motel though. His opening-band snappy white shoe high-strung Rickenbacker thing deserved to be seen up close. (Photo by Monti Smith)
